Advertising your small business for almost nothing?

By applying Tim Ferriss 80-20 analysis to everything, it’s much easier to notice where you’re wasting energy in your marketing efforts. The 80-20 principle (Pareto’s law) means that most results (80%+) are produced by the least work/time (20% or less). Here is a short list of things that would have the most impact on your sales if done right in order to be known the fastest way posible by the most people possible:

Posts GREAT HIGH VALUE  & useful post and videos for your followers. This one is more about building long term evergreen content than overnight success, but it’s also one of the most important since it positions you as a thought leader in a field.

Help others on other people blogs or websites or product reviews. Don’t try to sell yourself, your business or your products: focus on what they need and give them an amazing high value answer. Gary Vaynerchuk is a big fan of this and built a following of 100 000 people per day for his daily wine show in part because he helped so many people.

Post Great content WEEKLY and make sure you are positive, energitic and STAND OUT with something different: don’t do what everybody else is doing.

Posts GREAT HIGH VALUE useful post for your people. Avoid loosing their time with what you ate for dinner or worse spamming them 10 times a day with “buy buy buy” post. Provide VALUE, then offer 1 FREE article on EXACTLY what to do for those who want to do this themselves (don’t worry, they’ll never be your customers anyway), and offer 2 products or services (mid-range + expensive $$$) that you could offer them for THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND HIGH VALUE and understand that you’ll always do it better than anybody else since you’re an expert in your field.

You should always run those BUT your best bet is focusing 80% of your time on the items above: the easiest tool is always saturated by all the people taking the easy road.

Still focusing only on ads? It’s time to update your strategy. Although you should always have at least some ads running of different medias and websites, using ads alone as your strategy to get known is a very time consuming and “one person at a time” process that is highly inefficient  You could work 100 hours trying to publicize your products on Adwords and get 100 sales or get featured by a great influencer in your domain and sell 10 000 products in the next week. It’s all a question of focusing on what’s important.
