How to quickly add Google Content Experiments to a WordPress blog on the home page?

It can be pretty confusing / complicated (frustrating?) to add a Google Content Experiments (split testing) to a WordPress blog. So here is how you do it (see below the image for the steps).

STEP 1

Go to your WordPress website, login,then click “APPEARANCE”

STEP 2

Click “EDITOR”.

STEP 3

Click “Header.php” or “Header”

STEP 4

Find the <HEAD> tag. It should be VERY CLOSE to the beginning of the page. Put your cursor AFTER the tag and press “ENTER” on your keyboard 5 times (more space makes everything more readable).

STEP 5

COPY + PASTE in that empty space you create these lines:

<? if (is_home()){ ?>
<? } ?>

STEP 6

Get your Google Content Experiment code. You will find it in Google Analytics under the tab “CONTENT”. It is called “EXPERIMENTS”.

STEP 7

Create the Google Content Experiment. At some point, they will give you the CODE to ADD. COPY THE CODE IN BETWEEN THE 2 LINES AT STEP 5.

STEP 8

SAVE the file. You’re done. Make sure that all pages that you are testing (you other split-tested pages) HAVE GOOGLE ANALYTICS CODE.
